Role: participant
According to the Bank of Thailand (BOT), Thailand has been exploring CBDC since 2018 with Project Inthanon, a wholesale CBDC initiative using DLT for cash tokenization, decentralized transfers, and bond tokenization. Project Inthanon-LionRock (2020) was a cross-border collaboration with the Hong Kong Monetary Authority. Project Bang Khun Phrom (end-2022 to Q3 2023) was a retail pilot limited to 10,000 participants with mobile app-based identity verification and 1:1 digital baht transfers. The BOT launched the Programmable Payment Sandbox in 2024 (expanded December 24, 2025), a Thai Baht-backed stablecoin sandbox for testing DLT, smart contracts, and condition-based payments. Thailand is a founding participant in Project mBridge since 2021, reaching MVP in mid-2024 alongside China, Hong Kong, and UAE. The government digital wallet scheme (launched August 1, 2024) is separate from BOT's CBDC initiatives. BOT has no immediate plans to issue retail CBDC officially but applies insights to programmable payments and tokenized assets. The BOT retail CBDC conclusion report remains the core official pilot source, but it does not publish a recurring national wallet or transaction series for the registry's metrics object. The registry therefore treats Thailand as an active pilot with no integrated public metrics.
Updated: Apr 22, 2026
The current registry page does not surface integrated public wallet or transaction metrics for Thailand's digital baht. The Bank of Thailand's official materials describe pilot conclusions and programmable-payment work, but not a recurring public metric series in the page dataset.
This answer is a deliberate guardrail. Thailand has meaningful official CBDC material, including pilot and sandbox conclusions, but the page should not imply that a stable public metrics series is already integrated. That distinction supports both fact-checking and search-snippet accuracy.
